Last year, through the adoption of our enhanced Principles and Criteria, we collectively made a renewed commitment to achieving market transformation. While the concept of market transformation has long been discussed and agreed upon by all RSPO membership categories, we’ve recognised our shortcomings and that we have a way to go to make our shared vision a reality.
With this improved standard under our belt now however, and 2020 sustainability targets fast approaching - now more than ever - is the time to put our words into action. This is why we’ve aptly themed our 17th Annual Roundtable Conference on Sustainable Palm Oil (RT17); A Shared Responsibility: Converting Commitments into Action.
If we are to achieve our shared vision, we must incentivise and reward the growers for their hard work in implementing these stringent standards. It’s time to make the next pledge and collectively work to drive market uptake and demand for certified sustainable palm oil, for this vision can only be fulfilled with a shared responsibility for impact from all industry players.
On behalf of myself, the RSPO Board of Governors and Secretariat, I’m pleased to welcome you to participate in the upcoming RT in Bangkok this November, to engage in a fruitful discussion together!
